Main Ingredients

  • 2 ounces White Rum
  • 1 whole, juiced Lime (Zesty lime is preferred)
  • 10-12 leaves Fresh Mint Leaves
  • 4-6 berries Fresh Ripe Strawberries (Muddled to perfection)
  • Top up Soda Water (Sparkling soda water is preferred)

Seasonings and Spices

  • 2 teaspoons Sugar (Can be adjusted to taste)

Optional Toppings

  • 1-2 berries Fresh Strawberries (For garnish)
  • 1 sprig Mint Sprig (For garnish)

Preparation

  1. Start by washing the fresh mint leaves and strawberries. Pat the leaves dry and remove the stems from the strawberries.
Tip: Always wash your produce thoroughly to remove any possible traces of pesticides or dirt.
  2. In a glass, add the sugar, mint leaves and 4-6 strawberries. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, crush the ingredients together until the sugar is dissolved and the strawberries are mashed into a pulp. This will release the flavors of the mint and strawberries into the sugar, creating a fragrant base for your cocktail.
Tip: Don’t over-muddle the mint as it can become bitter. Just a few gentle presses will do.

Cooking Instructions

  1. Cut the lime in half and juice it into the glass. Make sure to get all the juice out of the fruit.
Tip: Roll the lime on the counter before cutting and juicing it to get the most juice out of it.
  2. Pour in the 2 ounces of white rum into the glass. Stir the mix to combine all the flavors.
Tip: You can adjust the rum according to your taste. If you like it stronger, add a bit more; if you prefer it lighter, reduce the amount.

Finishing Touches

  1. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes. Then top up the glass with soda water, leaving some space for garnish.
Tip: Use crushed ice for a more traditional mojito.
  2. Stir the cocktail gently to mix the soda water with the rest of the ingredients.
Tip: Be careful not to stir too vigorously, or you’ll lose the carbonation of the soda water.
  3. For the garnish, skewer the 1-2 fresh strawberries and place them on the rim of the glass. Add a sprig of mint as well. You can also add a straw for easier drinking.
Tip: For an extra touch of sophistication, you can sprinkle a little sugar on the strawberries before skewering them.
  4. Your Refreshing Strawberry Mojito is now ready to serve and enjoy.
Tip: Serve immediately for the best taste and presentation.

Recipe Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the rum. You can also replace sugar with a sugar substitute for a healthier version. Remember, the key to a perfect Mojito is in the muddling, be gentle to avoid breaking the mint leaves which would make your cocktail bitter.
